I read an article during the week from RRVS, here and here. I have known a couple of people who have been hacked and had their gear Vendored and gold stolen. It would be a terrible thing to happen, though in all the cases there has been little that was not recovered. Recently a guildy was hacked and he uses a Mac. Then another guildy was hacked, cleaned out and then transferred. He was lucky his brother was on lone at the time and his password was changed before anything was stolen. Then today, Xerro, who I dual-box with, was also hacked. This time it was an officer with Vault access. Xerro is no IT dummy. It is getting easier and easier to get hacked. Its time to take notice.
Protection.
If you use a Windows OS, make sure you always have the latest updates installed.
Install good Anti-Virus and Firewall software and make sure it is up to date.
I believe the windows accessibility keyboard will not be detected by key-loggers, though I am not 100% sure on this. I would recommend you always use this for your username and click to remember it. That way if you are infected, they will have only your password and not your username. To be extra safe you can use it for your password as well.
You can edit your hosts file as well to include ad.yieldmanager.com to protect yourself from this current outbreak.
Fully updated, IE7 on Vista is very secure, though you may wish to try Firefox as it is generally considered to be safer than IE.
