I don't want this to come across negatively, I honestly believe Blizzard do a great job of managing such an enormous community. In this case Multi-Boxers seem to have been inadvertently hit by this latest round.
Warden.
Warden is a component of Warcraft the checks for applications that are running when you are playing. This is designed to pick up 3rd party applications that breach the ToS. Basically it's looking for Bot's.
Bot or Not?
According to Blizzard, 3rd party software is OK as long as it does not automate game play. Things like delayed/timed Macro's right through to full Bot's are not allowed. Most Multi-Boxers do not use this sort of application.
Why the Bans?
I have a couple of theories here.
- I think there may have been a few False Positives where Blizzard thinks an application is doing the wrong thing when it's not. An example of this is Maximizer. Maximizer basically launches the wow.exe so that the window is in a specific location and resolution.
- There is one uncommon application used for Boxing that CAN be used for automation, though generally it is not. I say it is uncommon because it is generally harder to configure than the more mainstream ones.
- It also appears that Blizzard has been targeting Glider Users as well as people who have purchased accounts.
The Solution?
It appears to me that Blizzard decides on what criteria they are going to look for and then act on it. I think in an ideal world, they should then take a cross section of this data and actually contact the account holders or look at the available information closely to determine if their criteria is suitable for banning accounts.

That's horrible! Were you one of the ones that were hit by the ban wave?
On a similar note, any idea what those were were hit are planning on doing? Are they going to try and appeal to Blizzard?
No I wasn't hit. The few people that got hit with a false positive will easily get un-banned. I have seen more threads about it and it turns out boxers were only colateral damage, the magority of offenders were actually using Bots or Sharing Accounts.
