Is Warcraft the MMO Killer?

You may remember Beld's post about Warhammer and if it's the "WoW Killer". I thought I would share my view on this topic. I honestly think it would be very hard for any other company to produce a "WoW Killer". It's not because of Warcraft though. Don't get me wrong, the Blizzard team have done a great job to keep Warcraft interesting and compelling. That's not what keeps me here though. That's not what keeps Warcraft on the MMO Throne.

Communities.

Here lies the secret of success. Warcraft was my first MMO. Before Warcraft, I pretty much played FPS's. Now we all know that most games have some sort of Community attached to them. With the FPS Games, Quake, Half-life, Counter Strike, etc, the sense of Community was fairly limited. If you look at what Players have in common, the list is quite short.

Warcraft Communities.

When you look at the communities that have stemmed from Warcraft, it is truly staggering. We have Class Communities, Guild Communities, Role Communities, Realm Communities, RP Communities and even Blog Communities. I think most people could even add a few more communities to the list. It's these communities that give Warcraft the strength and dominance in the market.

My Communities.

Obviously, this community theory is just that, my theory and my thoughts. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I share the same view as others. Regardless, I though I would share the communities I belong to.

Blog Azeroth.

Valenna and Phaelia, (with the help of Matticus and Wyn, BBB, Kestrel , Breana and Fimlys, Created Blog Azeroth or BA for short. BA is a Forum where Bloggers get together to discuss pretty much anything. Here is where you find help with anything from Creative Input through to Technical Support. There is something here for everyone.

Twisted Nether.

Breana and Fimlys started Twisted Nether to bring the blogging community together. They do some very entertaining Interviews in their blogcast and also have some great contributing authors like Matticus, Phaelia, Anna and Auzara.

Plus Heal.

Matticus decided to fill a hole in the Warcraft Community with a Healer Centric forums. With the Help of Wyn, Phae, Siha, Auzara and Anna, they try to fill that void of healing information. This is a great forum for any healer. Unfortunately with my focus being more Feral ATM, I do not get the time to contribute, though I do keep reading.

Guilds.

This is always a big part of any wow players community. I have been in two guilds throughout my wow career and have made many lasting friends in both.

Boxing.

Dual-Boxing.com is a great resource for any up and coming Boxer. There are many knowledgeable people there from 10-Boxers to addon developers and everyone is there to help.

There's More!

There are so many other communities out there that we are apart of. I would love to hear more about the communities you belong too. I think with so many ties to Warcraft, any new MMO Killer will have to really impress to break the ties so many of us have formed.
