Offspec's?

The Guild I am in is currently going through an overhaul. What we had wasn't really working so we decided on making some changes that would focus us seriously on raiding. One of the discussions was Offspec's and Raiding. In my opinion we can categorise the current specs into either PVP, PVE or Under-par. Some specs are Great in PVP, some are great in PVE and some, while they can still contribute, don't really cut it in either PVE or PVP.

Druids.

I can really only be informative with this discussion with Druids and I have to admit that I am only guessing when it comes to PVP, since my PVP experience is very limited. I am going to be generic here and just stick with the Tree's.

Feral Druids.

Feral Druids currently have it pretty good in PVE. We are great Off-Tanks with Acceptable DPS when we are not tanking. I would not consider this as an Offspec for PVE. When it comes to PVP though, I don't think we really cut it. I think we do OK but not as well as other classes.

Balance Druids.

I really don't know how Balance Druids do in PVP. I think its pretty good, the few times I took my balance into PVP he was focus fired very early on. PVE is a hard one though. I have seen great balance Druids do amazingly well. In the RD's we had a Balance Druids called Dendruis who would be fighting with the equally geared and skilled Mage for Top Spot. I know Balance/Resto hybrids are sometimes a good option for a raid when you need that little bit more healing but not another full healer, then again a full Balance druid can still just whack on some healing gear to fill this as well. Assuming a pure DPS role, I think Balance Druids are still considered as an Offspec.

Resto Druids.

I believe Resto's are viable for both PVE and PVP. The HoT's are great for PVP along with Bear form to take a couple more hits than what a Clothy could manage. PVE they obviously excel at as well.

Wrath?

Things will of course change with Wrath. Blizzard have stated, though I can't find the post, that they want more specs to be not only viable but competitive. Does this mean a Boomkin can get close to the DPS of a Mage? I know they have said a Feral Cat spec will be a lot closer to a rogue in DPS. I guess what I really want to know is will there still be Offspec's that aren't viable in PVE?

Challenge!

Well its not really a challenge, but I would love to hear from some people who know a bit more about what will happen in Wrath.

Thought i would quicjkly drop a note here atfer reading about Feral Cat DPS.

I just re-speced at lvl 72 to get the maximum DPS, had to give up on stealth bonuses, armour bonuses and a few things besides.... but....

1st instance run after re-spec.
Ran UK with lvl 71's, came top of the DPS with 29.3%, even though i was up against a mage, rouge and dps DK who was tanking for us.

In conclusion, if you are willing to give up some solo talents for the pure dps, it is not just possible, its AWESOME !

(My crit chance of 42% helps :P)
