New Monitor

After Work on Friday I picked up my new Samsung 22" Monitor. It's one of the better(cheap) 22" monitors with the ability to Pivot vertically. I have connected this to my Slave PC and now have the two wow clients running in 1050*840, one above the other. This is a massive improvement for visibility and I am very happy with it. I also started to convert another Razorbax's UI to suite Multi Boxing. When I am done I should be able to play any combo of characters, either solo or in a group. This will be more important once I hit 70.

Beld is Slack.

I must admit I am rather un-impressed with Beld and his Multi Boxing Progression. He has not even managed to get his three Gnomes to level 10 yet. Hopefully this post may motivate him....;)

Zej isn't Slack.

Zej on the other hand is making great Progress. His Pally has hit 58 and is progressing well. Xerro is also doing well on his Tank/Healer combo, sitting on around level 65.

Dual-Boxing Tanks

There are lot's of class combinations that people choose when they go down the Dual-Boxing path. If we start at the top end with the 5-boxers, you will have either a PVE group that contains the Holy-Trinity of Tank, Healer and 3 DPS, or there is the PVP flavour which is either 1 Healer, 4 DPS or just 5 DPS classes. When you lower the numbers down to 3 or 4 boxing, things are usually much the same. PVP tends to be more DPS based while PVE will try and fill as many of the roll's as possible. When it comes to Dual-Boxing though, there are usually two combinations. Its either Double DPS, or its Tank and Healer.

What not To-Do.

One rule that most boxers follow is "More than one melee = Bad". The real issue here is getting both characters into Melee range to make them effective. This can really be a challenge. Its for this reason alone that casters are very popular for Boxers.

Breaking the Mould.

As you know, Zej is levelling his Pally. While he is boosting, he will be holy specced so that his healing can actually speed up the Boosting process by reducing downtime. Now here is where things get interesting. When Zej Jnr hits 70, he will be specced to Tank. Most people would think this is just an easy way to level a 2nd 70. Though this may be the case, Zej wants to take things a little further.

Double Tanks.

This may not sound like it is that difficult, until you actually break it down and look at what's required. From my discussions with Zej, he is actually going to have two sets of movement keys. He will also have various spells and abilities that are either used separately or together. For example, he may have a single key that will shoot an arrow with his Warrior and throw the Avengers Shield with his Pally. His Taunt keys and abilities like Intercept would be bound by them selves.

The Result?

Well that we will have to wait and see. I think the best part about this is the level of challenge that it will require. I think most of us enjoy a good challenge. Let's see if Zej can rise to the occasion.

Ding 64/64/64

I have now finished the main area in Terokkar Forest and I am in the Bone Wastes. I Dinged 64 and finally have my Totem of Wrath. My Plan for tonight is to see if I can get the Ony chain finished, I really still need a Tank for this. I can take the groups in BRD but it is just a little to time consuming. I have the added bonus of a Friend who has just specced his Pally to Prot and needs practice;).

Zej.

Zej has been boosting his Pally through SM and has just dinged 39. Like me he can't wait to get out of SM, it becomes so tedious after 20 or so runs. When he hits 40 its of to ZF for 5 levels and then its BRD/Scholo/Strat until he hits 55. From 55 its Ramps time. At this point I will probably join him or he will get another guildy if I'm not around. He can probably 2-man most of it but its pushing it and will be a lot easier with at least one person to help.

Beld.

Over the last couple of day we have been working on his Boxing Setup. The closer we get the more exciting it is, for the both of us. It's nice to have a couple of apprentices;). Hopefully we will see him up and running very soon. Of course you can expect some posts based on his own experiences of setting up to box.

Medivh.

It seems like Medivh isn't that popular for Boxers. The three people I had met that were boxing seem to have hibernated. To my knowledge there are only the 4 of us, and all of us are in the Red Dragons.

Badges.

I have worked out that I will need 9 Primal Nethers for my Crafted Epics. I will more than likely use badges from my other two druids as I get them to build this up. That's 90 badges in total. Should not take too long;).

LW on Razorshocks.

Since I will be hitting Nagrand soon, I really want to catch up my LW on Razorshocks so they can both take advantage of all the Leather I will be getting from Nagrand. SO I think tonight I will blow a some gold and at least hit 300.

Three Druid Noobs Unite!

Ok, So we are united anyway but Zej, Beld and myself have set ourselves a goal. Before we go into that though, I will update you with a few things that are in the Works.

Beld.

Beld has decided to become a Multi-Boxer. We have been discussing it over the past couple of days and it looks like he will go with three cute little Gnomes. He will have two Warlocks and a Mage. He also has a 60 Pally that he will Spec Prot to boost em up. Once he hits 70, he will be Quad Boxing. Since he has a Healing Priest, which will be on the same account as his Pally Tank, he will have alot of options for group makeup for both PVE and PVP.

Zej.

What can I say. Zej loves to Tank. He has a Mage at 70 but lets not go there. Zej has decided to Dual Box. He is going to go with a Paladin. Now since he has his Warrior Tank, you would expect his Pally to be Holy or at least Ret, right? Wrong! His Pally will be a Tank as well.

The Goal.

You can probably guess where this is going. Boxing Karazan. We plan on "4" manning Karazan. This will be our Group Makeup.

MT: Zej, Warrior
OT: Zej, Paladin
DPS: Razorbax, Shammy
DPS: Razorbax, Shammy
DPS: Razorbax, Mage
DPS: Beld, Warlock
DPS: Beld, Warlock
DPS: Beld, Mage
Heal/CC: Beld, Holy Priest
Heal: Some Guild Healer

When?

As soon as we manage to get all of us to level 70 with some decent gear. I have a feeling we will be waiting on Beld for this one, since he has to start from scratch (Zej is transferring a low level Pally to his new account). I do not think this will be too much of an issue as it will give Zej more of a chance to gear up his Prot Pally.

SS or it didn't happen.

We will Fraps our Successes and Failures for your entertainment!

Badges Part 4 (or Class Theology and Breakdown pt1)

"This is what I really want to see. Make some epic versions of the Heavy Clefthoof set. Lets see some gear with defense on it. I don't want to have to use Defense Gems and Enchants instead of the preferred Stamina that all tanks enjoy. In my opinion the 2.4 Chest that is obviously designed for Bears and should have at lease some Dodge and Defense on it."

The real issue is from that is not itemization for bear, but the fact that druids *ARE* hybrids. Being hybrid in nature means that you will never get the same type of itemization as warriors. I disagree with the philosophy somewhat, but I do see why blizzard wants to keep it like that. They want druids to be able to use both cat and bear since it is "Feral Combat" not "Bear Combat." Warriors have some of the same pitfalls in our "tier" sets as well, since our iLvl points are wasted on miniscule amounts of Strength and Agility, rather than Block value and dodge.

I think that if they did itemize some leather like some warrior tank plate, then we would see leather with high defense and ridiculous amounts of stamina, giving bears a much bigger health pool(I don't disagree again, I think bears should have the highest health pool, but only by a 10 or 15% margin rather than the 20-30%.) On a 156 iLvl chest, modelled after the Stoicism plate chest, we would see most, if not all the druids defense needs, a socket, and 80+ stamina. However I don't see anything wrong with an item like this:

Felspine Vest:
712 Armor
+24 Strength
+36 Agility
+81 Stamina
Yellow Socket
Socket Bonus: +3 Stamina
Equip: Increases Defense Rating by 42.
Equip: Increases Hit Rating by 12.

That would realistically be the only amount of defense that a druid would need. Now I can see why Blizzard itemizes druids they way they do. I don't think it is entirely fair for druids, but I don't think pure tank gear for how well druids scale is really fair for other tanks as well (Yes I know druids have other problems, but scaling needs to come back into sanity before most other issues can be fixed)
Before I get to scaling:
The druid chest does have dodge on it. It is just in the form of agility since it is better for druids than dodge rating. Druids dodge rating scales so much easier with agility rather than dodge that it isn't even funny.

As far as scaling goes:
The easiest way to fix scaling is to remove any racial's that increase a statistic (Im looking at you specifically taurens!) Then we can get talents that help scaling. Warriors have the highest natural health, and we have the best average stamina on our gear. (tier 6 paladin beats out tier 6 warrior though :( ) Now I think warriors would be nice with "vitality" being at 10% health increase giving us comparable health, but not quite the highest anymore. I honestly think we need a rage on dodge/parry talent, maybe a dodge% talent for scaling.
Druids have already amazing scaling, they just need the gear to get anywhere, now Razor and I disagree on a lot, but I do think druids need slightly more adjusted leather, a new tank weapon, and some new unique tanking abilities.
Paladins seemed to have gotten the best of both worlds, they have ridiculous scaling stamina, good single target tanking (though is weaker than druids and warriors admittedly), easy-to-achieve scaling threat coefficient (spell power > attack power+block value), and hands down the best AoE threat. Easiest thing is to bring the stam talent to 15% total stamina, but condense it to one talent.

I've lost my train of thoughts in this rant :)

Badges! Part 2

From Razorbaxftw:
"Yep, that's right, the Armoury on Medivh has finally been completed. When I logged out last night I logged out right where they will appear. Which btw we were up to 99% when I had to log out for the night and head to bed. /sigh Anyway, I have 105 Badges now so I can grab my chest as soon as I log on. Though it looks like I'll need to change some Gems/Enchants to pick up the 10 defense I will lose. WTB Tank Itemization... Razorbax"

Silly druid, there is tank itemization. It's just that it may not be exactly what you want. I had 200 badges last night and picked up the plate chest and legs, now I would like more stamina on these pieces, but Ill settle for the expertise, defense, and dodge on the legs, and the block value, dodge, and defense on the chest. Im really just glad to be mostly rid of ZA bamboo armor though.
Also badge gear tends to be have it's stat distribution a little skewed even though it is a high iLvl. So because it is badge gear it may be designed not just for bear, but for hybrid use on both cat and bear. Yes it may not look like it, but people use all sorts of gear for crazy purposes (like using the http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28485 for tanking :( )

Now quite a bit of the 2.4 vendor gear is awesome compared to what people had available to them but it is still only badge gear, and is inferior to similar iLvl raid gear. Not all specs get a good amount of gear from the badges, but that is why sockets are there. Now it does suck that there are no exclusively tank bear gear though, I would have liked to have seen at least one with +defense.

Retraction?

I was part of a conversation I thought I would share.....

Zej says:Hey Beld?
Beld says:Hey there mate
Beld says:how are ya?
Zej says:Have you DONE the SSO dailies?
Zej says:SSO Dailies = 160 in an hour.
Zej says:160g
Beld says:I don't know what they are
Beld says:WTF
Beld says:on a slow flying mount?
Zej says:Its in Azeroth
Zej says:No flying mount allowed
Beld says:holy shit
Beld says:what is SSO?  where do I get them?
Zej says:Shattered Sun Offensive.
Zej says:there is an NPC that sends you to IF to fly out there
Beld says:oh the new zone?
Zej says:its basically Scryers+Aldor+Shattrath=SSO
Zej says:yes the new Isle of Quel'Danas
Beld says:and not horribly over crowded?  I would have assumed 90% of players would be there
Zej says:It is overcrowded, just means faster spawns
Zej says:some mobs even spawn seconds on top of the mob you just killed
Beld says:wow, so blizzard have thought about it
Zej says:yeah
Zej says:I mean look
Zej says:I spent like 300g this morning all together
Zej says:when i logged off my total spent money was 85g
Zej says:from playing from 10pm to 11pm I made 215g
Razorbax says:Time for an "I told you so" Post Zej ;)
Beld says:hahaha
Beld says:wow that is great
Zej says:maybe
Zej says:maybe Ill let beld retract his own words.
Razorbax says:more fun to prove him wrong:P
Beld says:lol, nah I just leave what I say until someone deletes it
Beld says::P
Zej says:EDIT YOURE @#$%^&@ POST
Zej says::P
Beld says:ROFLMAOPIMP
Razorbax says:Oh... Drama, a Retraction!
Zej says:Oh btw, Mana and Leather have a variable that the SSO dailies don't have.
Zej says:Players.
Razorbax says:?
Zej says:players create the market for em, if nobody needs em there isn't any more market and then you loose the 100-150g an hour.
Zej says:and it drops to say, 80g an hour at most because of deflation.
Beld says:very true
Razorbax says:ahh
Zej says:Where dailies basically pour money into the economy to stimulate it
Zej says:keep it going
Beld says:I have found over the months that leather sales go hot and cold, but mana has been pretty consistent
Zej says:Hmm, I wonder who could use that idea...
Zej says:mana is consistent, but its harder to farm than 9 mobs.
Zej says:9 mobs and bam, 250 rep+ 11g
Beld says:I will have to check them out
Beld says:they sound too good to be true
Zej says:Razor, your opinion?
Razorbax says:I agree with you Zejjypoo
Zej says:http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34671
Beld says:I have tried all the other dailies I can
Zej says:There is a new healing mace for you at revered.
Beld says:never been able to finish the group quests for the ogre ones
Zej says:http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34677
Beld says:oh I like that
Zej says:There is a new healing neck for you at exalted
Beld says:mmm kk, might be worth doing .. MIGHT be  :P
Zej says:well
Razorbax says:Screencapped!
Zej says:the effect is nice if you are exalted with either of the scryers or aldor
Beld says:I hate you Razor

And there we have it!

Ramblings

One more ZA run down the tubes, we cleared all bosses, got two timed events and lost to the third one by no more than 10 seconds. It took us two days only because we could not just get Zul'Jin down with any success before people got too tired or just ran out of potions or materials.

We had Fury, an OH fist weapon, drop from Nalorak and it went to our fury warrior by the name of Llorik (Congrats on farming that OH pvp weapon :P). The Amani Punisher, a 1h spell damage mace suited to paladin tanking commonly, drop from Akil'Zon and it went to a holy paladin for if he respecs protection as our protection paladin had already won it from a previous run. The Footpads of Madness, a healing cloth boot, dropped from Jan'Alai and it was disenchanted as none of our healers needed it. The Savage Choker, a dps neck(with stam, attack power, and melee haste) dropped and it went to our arms warrior. The Battleworn Tuskgard, a tank helm, and Tome of Diabolic Remedy, a healing trinket, dropped from Hex Lord Malacras the Tome went to a healer, and the tank helm went to the same arms warrior because I don't have the spare defense at the moment to really take use of the helmet. Zul'Jin dropped the Loop of Cursed Bones, a spell casting neck, and the Cleaver of the Unforgiving. The loop was De'ed and I took the Cleaver since it is nice enough to roll on, though I like my KD better >.>

I was playing my psp one night while waiting for some friends to drop by my house. Now this is nothing special or different, yet when I was playing my psp my game was lagging a bit from the disk needing to be read. I was still just playing when, all of a sudden, I heard this loud crunching, grinding sound from my psp. After a few minutes it stopped, but then a loud tone proceded to emanate from the psp. I looked down at the screen and it too had froze. I pulled out the UMD and tried to reboot the game. Lo and behold, the disk reader would not read the game. I tried for several days to try to fix it and it ended up just being a completely broken reader. I ended up having to buy a new psp.

Thanks Sony!

Continuation from Razor's post

It seems that blizzard is trying to push all it's BC content, both pve and pvp, onto everybody before WotLK comes into play, hence the removal of the attunements, and the accessibility of very, very powerful gear for nothing more than badge farming means that it is easier to progress through the content that blizzard has so painstakingly made easy. They do not want to repeat the mistake with Naxxramas this time around, but this is not the way to do it. They could easily made the rewards from a 25 man token drop *like badges of justice* but from the 25 man raids only, making karazhan and Zul'Aman not the farming zone for badges of justice and gear as opposed to the 25 mans. It is easier to get badges in 6 hours from both kara and ZA instead of trying to get 25 people together and farm a 25 man zone.

On the Changes:

The change to cleave, avenger's shield, and swipe are all nice, but it is the nicest for druids, as they now get a multi-target tank ability that doesn't break crowd-control. Cleave is close to swipe, but isn't instant like it. Avenging Shield has a cast time, making it hard to work into a good rotation for multi-target tanking, not that paladins actually need this ability to multi-target tank. I would be completely flabbergasted if they included consecration to this list.

I think Razor misses the point of the change to Lacerate. They reduced the threat of the ability and increased the damage of the ability so it does the relatively the same threat. However it now scales with AP so sooner or later you will end up doing more threat with it than the current version on the live servers. This is like the change that they did to the warrior ability "revenge" yet continued it by allowing to actually scale. Revenge used to do threat equal to damage plus 500. Now it does damage +200 threat. It is the same threat really, just more damage to attempt to allow us to do solo damage or add some kind of dps to our tanking, but forgot to mention any form of.

There aren't many other changes that bother me at the moment like Razor. I just wish Blizzard goes back and looks over abilities and does some re-tooling so that it makes a bit more sense. I have some handy examples with me to make my point.

Rend: Rend could be 300% more powerful and still be the weakest DoT in the game. I know warriors should not have a powerful DoT, but having a level 70 DoT be weaker than another classes level 20 Dot?

Thunderclap: A melee damage spell that is mitigated by armor, but uses spell hit and crit, and does not scale with AP? They could change that easy by making it use both Hit and Crit and scale with AP.

Druid weakness against mobs that are Nature Immune mobs: Give druids an arcane spell that is somewhat useful against mobs that isn't a mana intensive nuke that doesn’t have much damage. This ties into the same thing with paladins, warlocks, warriors, and any class that really only has access to one form of damage and comes across a mob that can make it self immune, or resistant, to that school or style of damage. A good example are the shades in Scholo that become immune to physical damage after 30% health.

Ramblings

"Some people just don't have the time for multiple character's or the patience to level to 70. But I guess you can always just roll a Druid"

It's not that I dont have time for an alt, I just don't like alts, and I want to play a real class. By real class I mean not an overpowered mockery of class makeup :P
I do have some alts, but none that are close to Razor's alts at the moment. Maybe my level 42 warrior? I could level up my paladin in the off time with the help of Razor's feral druid to catch up, maybe thursday :)

I have thought about getting the same XKeys that Razor has now. I like the idea that I can hit all my keys that I need and are separated from my keyboard. I think it would end up helping for other classes and my warrior for pvp. Although that may just be me wanting the next new gadget. It might be a good idea since I have caught up on some bills that I had to pay.

---Non-Wow News---

I bought a new TV recently, a 42" Plasma.

I...Love.....this......TV...

That's really all I can say, rather than I have to resist the urge to play wow on it all the time :)

Hello

INV_Shield_20 My name is Zej, I play a warrior. I have played one since closed beta back before WoW was live. I have somewhat distinct viewpoints about tanking and WoW that Razor loves to poke and prod at. I'll try to think of something worthwhile to add to this area of barren wasteland that is the Internet.

I'll also try to curb Razor's pro-druid propaganda.
Razor makes me want to buy Xkeys like he did. I am broker than a SL warlock in pvp and he can't seem to understand that.

INV_Shield_20 Well it looks like I spoke too soon. It turns out that Zej preferred to be a contributing author, so on that note, Welcome to Zej.

And then there were Three.

I think three of us is a good number that suits this blog. We are all good friends and I am sure you will be entertained by our discussions and Posts.
